Awesome field was there this year includingHey Guys, Raced the Hy Vee US 5150 Championships in Des Moines over the weekend. The richest prize purse in triathlon. Awesome field was there this year including the olympic gold and silver medallist. We didn’t start til 4.30 in the afternoon which is very weird for me these days and it was pretty warm!! Last year I finished 4th in this race but my goal was to get top 10 this year with my focus this year being vegas/kona. So I’ve been doing a lot more longer training where as last year I concentrated on des moines/vegas so lots more speed work.

So to the race I had an awesome swimming getting out about 5th or 6th and feeling good but when i first dived in my timing chip fell straight off so i had to stop and put another one on in T1 before i could leave with my bike. There was a bike lead group and I was feeling good so I jumped away on lap 2 and ended up getting the bike prime on lap 3 which was $5150. Greg Bennett then joined me at the front of the race but I needed to back off a little after putting in the effort of getting the prime. I ended up coming into transition 2 in 3rd but I was an idiot and came around the last corner way too quick (like I was going around for another lap!!) and I couldn’t stop in time and rode straight across the dismount line thus incurring a 1min stand down penalty. But I got going again and actually felt alright running. Built into it well and managed to pick up a few places finishing in 10th. A great pay day for 10th position. So onto the 70.3 world champs in vegas this weekend. Rest up this weekend and then hit it again!! Thanks to my great sponsors!! Trek, K-Swiss, Blueseventy, Fuel Belt, Bontrager, Campagnolo, Cycleops, Base Perfromance,Oakley. PS. Dragons finished 9th so no finals footy for us this year. Look towards next year!! Barnythe olympic gold and silver medallist.
